NC

Yes, that means NO CHANGE. I am still at 170, holding strong. Yeah - I'm happy to maintain, but I am not okay with mainting right here. I've went back to the basics - logging every single thing that enters my mouth, because unless I know I'm eating 100% on plan and still maintaining, I will not accept the reasoning that this is the weight my body wants to be at. I have been a little slacking in tracking & sticking to 1200 calories.

Off topic, earlier I was reading this on Yahoo! and was excited about the fact someone finally recognized you can be fat and malnourished at the same time. I absolutely loved the following excerpt:

In the film, New York University nutrition professor Marion Nestle notes that the price of processed foods has decreased by 40 percent since 1980 while the price of fruit and vegetables has gone up by the same amount. The price disparity has helped drive the obesity epidemic, especially among low-income groups, she contends.
HOWEVER! They totally lost me here:

Some of the solutions proposed in "A Place at the Table" include expanding food stamps, ensuring that all children who qualify for free school lunches have access to them, implementing nutrition education, reexamining farm subsidies, and revising guidelines for federal food assistance.
No. No no no no no. We do not need to expand food stamps. In the same subject, we do not need to allow food stamps to BUY processed foods. What say we actually limit the food stamps to buying healthy, nutritious, unprocessed foods. How about the government stop backing the processed food industry.

Why is it that people are going hungry and no one wants to talk about it? Is it because of shame? Or is it because our government likes us this way - corn syrup ingesting, GMO-loving, processed food junkies?

  1. Girl I feel ya... there is big money in supporting the processed junk food. It is ridiculous. If they would take all the government subsidized money they give to gmo corn producers and big beef companies (that feed the cows corn, then shoot them up with antibiotics when they get sicknesses from eating corn instead of grass), and give it to small farmers growing real vegetables, and give it to small farms raising cows in grassy pastures. If people would stop eating so much so that there wouldn't be a need for so much processed food... eh, there is sooooo much wrong with what we eat, how we eat, and the amount we eat. It is disheartening.

  3. I want to see this film (A Place at the Table)

I was reading an article in the NYTimes about processed foods and the addictive nature. Super interesting.

I always like to stay informed and I agree with you that there are several areas that need improving!

  4. If you didn't allow food stamps to purchase processed food and only healthy, nutritious actual real live food, you would, in fact, be expanding the food stamp program. The truth is that $5.00 can buy you a lot of crap and about 3 Fuji organic apples and a head of lettuce. I'm just saying. It's honorable to want all people to eat well all the time. It SHOULD BE a goal our society has for itself. But it will cost a pretty penny, unless something forces a change in the pricing scheme as it currently stands.

  6. Yes, I've heard that as well about the fact that you can be overweight and malnourished. It's going to take a huge shift in our society's mindset to change going from relying on processed food to making food at home.

I'm hoping I'm coming out of a long term plateau now. My therapist said that your body will lose, lose, lose than try to maintain at a certain threshold. Then start to lose again if you can get past it again.
